Type of project

This initiative combines global learning, environmental education, and civic engagement to raise awareness about water as a shared global resource. It connects schools, refugee communities, and international partners through exhibitions, workshops, and public events that highlight the social, ecological, and political dimensions of water. By training young people and volunteers as exhibition guides and facilitators, it fosters participation, dialogue, and understanding of global interdependencies. The project also strengthens local and international networks working toward sustainability, climate justice, and resource fairness.

It links local education with global responsibility, making the complex topic of water tangible and relevant for everyday life. Through participatory and inclusive methods, it empowers both young people and refugees to become active contributors to environmental awareness and global justice.

Target

Students with little prior exposure to global learning topics and refugees, particularly from Ukraine and, who have had limited access to environmental education. They are reached through established networks with local schools and youth centers as well as through ongoing community programs such as language courses, cultural activities, and family events.

Science – Based

Scientific knowledge is embedded through the use of verified environmental research and educational materials, particularly the Wasseratlas published by BUND, which presents scientific data and analyses on global water resources. The project applies participatory and museum-educational methods from global learning, enabling participants to explore scientific content through guided exhibitions, group tasks, and reflective exercises

Gender

Particular emphasis is placed on the inclusion of research conducted by women.

Planned activities

• Training for Student Guides: Empowers small groups of students from three local schools to lead the exhibition “Alles im Fluss!? Wasser in der Krise.”.
• Training for Ukrainian/Russian-speaking Guides: Prepares members of the Ukrainian and refugee community to guide visitors through the exhibition in their native language and promote environmental learning.
• Expert and Partner Events on “Water as a Global Resource”: Engages local and international experts and partner organizations in educational events linking water, climate, and sustainability topics

Action model

• The project combines participatory education, civic engagement, and global dialogue around water as a shared resource. Through interactive exhibitions, youth and refugee trainings, and expert-led events, it translates scientific knowledge into accessible, action-oriented learning. Its inclusive and hybrid format allows both local and international participation, encouraging replication in other communities.
