Sustainable Event Management in South-Eastern Estonia

Type of project

The project promotes simple, practical ways to make events in South-Eastern Estonia more environmentally friendly and less wasteful. By showing that sustainable choices are doable in real-life event settings, it helps change attitudes, raise climate awareness, and encourage more responsible everyday behaviour among organisers and participants alike.

Target (Disengaged)

Disengaged groups are included through locally led, trust-based outreach: the project is carried out by a long-standing regional organisation with strong local roots, making the message more credible and approachable. By embedding climate-friendly practices into familiar community events, the project reaches people who would otherwise avoid or ignore environmental initiatives.

Science-based

The project builds on research showing that people change their behaviour when they understand why sustainability matters and see practical examples. It turns this evidence into action by combining simple explanations with real-life, hands-on solutions at events.

Gender

Since adult education studies show that training participation is more common among women, the project will carry out targeted outreach specifically to male event organisers to ensure more balanced participation.

Planned activities

≥ 60 event organisers trained through 4 themed training days on food waste reduction, reusable tableware, waste management, and sustainable procurement.
≥ 75% of participants report increased motivation and knowledge for environmentally responsible event management (based on feedback surveys).
≥ 4 public information articles published in major regional newspapers, reaching less-engaged audiences across South-Eastern Estonia.
Hundreds of readers reached indirectly, supporting the emergence of more environmentally aware event audiences who expect sustainable practices.

Action model

Local organisers are equipped with clear knowledge and hands-on solutions through trainings and real event examples, which normalises environmentally responsible practices in everyday event management and leads to lasting behaviour change among organisers and audiences in South-Eastern Estonia.
