Roots of Sisterhood: Women Who Care for the Planet

Type of project

The project consists of two thematic actions corresponding to the areas of responsible consumption, sustainable food systems and eco-cities (energy communities).

This proposal arose in response to a detected situation (hypothesis): the existence of sectors of the population that are unaware of climate issues and do not believe they can contribute to mitigating them. This situation is even more prevalent among women over the age of 50. One of the first actions proposed is to analyse the initial situation and identify the target audience through different tools.

The duration of the implementation is 12 months.

Target (Disengaged)

The involvement and engagement of our target audience — women over 50 in the region — is justified by the very nature of the project, which involves women directly in its implementation. We will use a participatory methodology to develop the project by establishing ‘participatory spaces and processes’ that guarantee participation and involvement. Examples of these spaces include the participation council, while examples of these processes include the ‘teaching-learning’ method used during informative and participatory sessions on energy saving, recycling and responsible food use and consumption.

Science – Based

The dissemination and promotion of trust in science will be carried out through the design and implementation of a communication plan. This will involve disseminating materials and content developed within the framework of the project, as well as existing public materials, resources and content. The theme will be scientific dissemination and its most relevant aspects for everyday life. This work will be carried out through social media publications, website content and press releases, as well as at conferences, meetings and workshops.

Gender

The following issues justify the incorporation of a gender perspective:

Promoting and increasing the visibility of women.
Non-sexist language, non-stereotypical images, and egalitarian references will be used.
The principles of gender equality and mainstreaming will be implemented in all actions.

Planned activities

Empower women over 50 in the region to take an active role in the fight against climate change. On the one hand, it is hoped to increase information and awareness about the various resources and tools available to contribute to energy saving, recycling and the responsible use and consumption of food. On the other hand, the development, promotion and dissemination of healthy recipes and menus based on ‘leftover cuisine’, ‘responsible consumption’ and traditional and sustainable techniques. Finally, to increase the active participation of women in initiatives and actions related to the fight against climate change.

Action model

A participatory methodology will be used to develop the project, with the women themselves participating in the communication and information plan, as well as in the monitoring and evaluation of the actions. The dissemination and promotion of trust in science will be supported by a communication plan based on the dissemination of materials and content developed within the framework of the project, as well as existing public materials, resources and content.
