PlantEA: Participatory re-naturation to tackle the climate change

Type of project

This initiative seeks to strengthen local capacities to mitigate and adapt to climate change through education, renaturation. Aim to encourage citizen participation in climate change adaptation and mitigation activities through renaturation. 

It responds to the climate and social vulnerability of the Southern District, where basic priorities have relegated environmental issues. It seeks to connect the population with the science and encourage collective action.

The implementation will last 6 months.

Target (Disengaged)

Students from CEIP Abderramán and the general population of the Southern District, with special emphasis on vulnerable groups, both young people and adults.

Science – Based

It uses data from the “Institute of Sociology and Peasant Studies” a research group at the University of Cordoba (linked to Forestry Engineering) to inform activities and validate approaches to renaturation and environmental education. Students will carry out science-based research work.

Gender

It integrates a gender perspective across the board, ensuring safe spaces and highlighting how climate change disproportionately affects women in vulnerable situation.

Planned activities

• Pupils: 32 students will participate in workshops and renaturation actions, increasing their climate awareness by 75%. 

• General population: 60 residents will participate in workshops and will receive accessible information materials.

Action model

• Educational workshops, participatory research and practical environmental intervention actions. It includes the use of scientific evidence adapted to the local context to drive awareness and action.
