Pescarola in Motion – Green Pathways and Participatory Sensing for Climate Justice

Type of project

The project aims to increase awareness and active participation among citizens in the Pescarola area. It addresses the climate crisis through the collective construction of scientific knowledge and the implementation of sustainable practices. The project will run for 14 months and includes meetings with disengaged target groups and educational workshops, with the ultimate goal of creating a green pathway in the area. Along this pathway, once developed, information panels, QR codes with collected data, best practices, and links between health and climate will be displayed. The goal is to promote knowledge and inspire people to take action in their own community for the benefit of all.

Target (Disengaged)

General, but focused on a disadvantaged neighbourhood

Science-based

Focus on data collect scientifically with target (citizen science) as part of the effort to counter disinformation (the monitoring stations will serve as physical ‘witnesses’ in the neighborhood so that it is not “asked to people to simply believe the data, but to see it being generated together”); plus narrative explanation  (link climate adaptation – welfare and health).

Gender

It is remarked that the project plan a strong involvement of SCIFT a group of scientists-activists mainly female that will support the team ensuring (hopefully) not only science-based methods and communications but also positive messages regarding women involvement.

Planned activities

• 1 launch press conference; 10 schools and 3 parishes engaged; 5,000 invitations distributed.
• 1 communication campaign across 3+ channels; 10 local organizations involved; 20 young volunteers activated.
• 5 public events in different neighborhoods; 1,200 children and 600 families directly involved; 1,200 eco-kits distributed.
• 1 original environmental theatre show with 5 performances at Teatro Fantàsia; 500 spectators; 10 artists/technicians involved.
• 1 final document (“Children’s Ideas for the Future”) delivered to the Municipality.

Action model

• The idea is that being present in disadvantage areas, involving existing entities on the ground and proposing simple recreating activity (and using an inclusive language) may attract attention. On these bases the project will develop also a theatre show design and co-produced to communicate positive and realistic message regarding sustainability, with a special focus on children.
