In the course of the planned project, the NOPLANETB – in Hungarian: Nagy Diák Fenntarthatósági Teszt, in English: Great Student Sustainability Test, will provide knowledge for the 14-24-year-old age group.
The form of this knowledge transfer is an immersive, 15-question, 3-round online test of 150 questions, which can be completed by anyone registered, but the best players of the well-defined target group will be awarded. The program ends at the 32nd National Youth Press Festival, where the result of the competition will be announced and awarded among nearly two thousand young people, student journalists, which will also be shown on stream.
The projects focus on a specific significant target: students of 14-24-year-old age group. DUE (in hungarian: Diák- és Ifjúsági ÚjságírókOrszágos Egyesülete, in Eneglish: Student and Youth Journalists National Association) is for more than 35 years has gathered young people interested in media, and organizes offline and online educational projects with the involvement of professionals on a wide base, with schools and institutions. The gamified, educational, attitude-shaping quiz format developed by DUE is going to send the key messages in an innovative way to the target group using the methods they like the most (smartphone, social media).
The aims are to raising attention of youth generation to the above issues via strong online and print media and in presence events.
Target
- primary target group: students of 14-24-year-old age group
- secondary target group: teachers, family members, school mates and friends who will be indirectly involved by supporting and following on the participants advancement during the serials of tests.
In addition to the scientifically based test questions, there will be articles appearing in DUE Tallozo magazine (online and print version) contents and social posts on due.hu website and DUE social media, and at the Press Festival event.
Science – Based
The total of 150 questions on various aspects of the impact of climate change to humanity and the Earth will be developed by climate experts and scientists keep focus on the followings. The topics and questions will be:
- based on scientific facts,
- promoting trust in science,
- relating to the phenomena of climate change,
- highlighting the impact of climate change on the individual,
- presenting good practices, accessible solutions are made to people,
- driving the attention of the “Disengaged” to be more involved.
The purpose of the program is not to impart elitist, academic knowledge, but rather to impart broader knowledge grassroots involvement, sensitization, awareness raising. The test questions will be science based but practical ones, easy to digest and suitable for presenting exercises that can be adapted to one’s everyday life.
Gender
Standard focus. Participation in the program is rest on the basis of equality. The online availability fulfills this expectation.
Among student journalists they pay attention to gender balance as well as during the scientists and experts involvement during the project cicle. Gender aspects might be raised among the test questions as well.
Planned activities
- The basis of the project is a national, three-round, uniquely developed online competition.
- Formulation of test questions on climate awareness: One of the cornerstones of the project is the 150-question question pool, from which an algorithm selects system 15 questions during filling. The questions can be grouped by topic, to give weight to topics within the entire set of questions. A question has 4 answer options, as well as an explanation/ fun fact to strengthen the educational effect.
- Basically, the questions are organized around the following topic groups: • anthropogenic causes of ecological crisis, • energy saving, • waste reduction and recycling, • environmentally friendly transport, • soil and biodiversity, • conscious consumer behaviour.
- According to our plans, the closing of the competition and the awarding of the most successful participants will be on the 32nd. National Youth Press Festival. The main prize is one super bike in each category, and the second and third place winners are they receive a gift selection package that promotes a sustainable lifestyle. An integral part of the Press Festival is the stream broadcast, which watched by 50-60 thousand people and on the day of the event and in the following two weeks.
The gross reach of young people aged 14-24 during the entire program is 750,000 people. Involved institutions: 480 primary and secondary schools and universities nationwide. Media: direct connection with at least 30 large and medium-sized media, general national and access via MTI (Hungarian Telegraph Office) press release. In presence event: 10-15 for-profit and non-profit organizations related to sustainability, who be invited to the Press Festival. Other youth organizations: 6-8 other national youth organization will be involved.
Action model
- The entire program is a novel, innovative and educational program that has already been successful in other topics in previous years. It is important to present different topics in a way that is accessible to young people processing. The questions can be formulated based on the existing knowledge, experience and knowledge. Regarding the fields it shall be chosen among the 9 main area mentioned in the project.
