Type of project

“From 4 to 2 at School”, presented by Legambiente Circolo di Valle Camonica, is an 18-month project to be implemented in the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo, involving multiple municipalities. The main objective is to achieve a significant increase in sustainable mobility compared to car use, aiming to double the number of students and parents who travel to school on foot or by bicycle. The project also includes awareness workshops to actively engage the community and local administrations.

Planned activities

Teacher Engagement: Activation of approximately 120 teachers across 11 middle school campuses in 7 Comprehensive Institutes in Valle Camonica and Alto Sebino. Teachers participate in activities, debriefing, and preparation of final presentations with students.
Parental Involvement: Awareness-raising and engagement of parents of around 750 students.
Local Administration Participation: Active involvement of administrators and municipal officials from 10 municipalities in Valle Camonica and Alto Sebino.
Educational Tools: Development of a replicable educational format and toolkit for sustainable mobility, available to schools.
Environmental Educator Training: Training of 10 environmental educators on the specific educational path and general sustainable mobility issues.
Student Learning & Activities:
- 750 students (30 classes) acquire knowledge, practical experiences, and group work skills to reassess their mobility habits.
- Students develop presentation, public speaking, and active citizenship skills, engaging with local authorities.
Communication & Outreach:
Dedicated project page on Legambiente Valle Camonica website.
At least 2 social media posts per month on Facebook and Instagram.

Action model

The idea is to stimulate local administrations and young students to work on practical solutions to improve two-legged mobility for commuting to school and work. By engaging both groups, the aim is for students to propose solutions and commitments to “prepared” and open to listen local authorities, resulting in an alignment of intentions and, hopefully, the implementation of minimal actions to facilitate pedestrian and bicycle mobility.
