“Food Forest” at M.Urpinu

Type of project

Renaturalization of a former urban quarry by transforming it into a “food forest” managed by neighborhood residents.

Target (Disengaged)

120 families living in adjacent apartment blocks, with a focus on youth and busy women.

Science-based

Scientific education on urban ecology and biodiversity; forestry consultancy for the targeted planting of native species.

Gender

“Gender communication” and activities designed to be attractive and manageable for the different types of women identified.

Planned activities

• Social perception analysis via questionnaires, greenery care workshops, and the creation of a community herbarium. Awareness campaign aimed at the local community regarding the psycho-physical and environmental benefits of outdoor sports, urban green care, and horticulture.

Action model

• Bottom-up urban regeneration; the hypothesis is that physical proximity to an NBS (the park under one’s house) incentivizes the adoption of sustainable practices thanks to direct benefits (well-being and property value).
