Summary of the project

The project aims at getting the citizens of Cordoba to recognise the environmental impacts of the food system, giving clear examples that another way of feeding is possible, putting a face to the producers and distributors, and making people aware of the great power that they have as consumers to modify consumption habits and forms of distribution.
We propose a 9-month awareness campaign. The basic objective is to make known how we can modify realities with something as simple as thinking about what we consume and how. In addition, the project presents the sustainable food options in the province (both organic and local products, cultivated with of short channels)
The project wants to invite citizens to reflect on the impact that their purchase will have on the environment, society and economy.
The campaign will involve workshops, informative materials and dissemination in the media (social networks, paper and digital press).

Beneficiaries

  • Networks of producers, processors and producers, and small distributors that belong to El Ecomercado de Córdoba

Overall achievements

The Ecomercado, a monthly organic market in Cordoba, has demonstrated that consuming locally and reducing the impact of climate change is within everyone’s reach. It developed awareness-raising workshops in universities and during the monthly market to raise awareness of the need for sustainable local food to face climate change. These workshops, on topics related the benefits of sustainable consumption and production in the food system, as well as guided visits to local ecological producers, had a great impact raising the interest of the inhabitants of Cordoba on the environmental effect of the current agri-food system and offering sustainable consumption and production options and providing them practical strategies for mitigating climate change.
