Bin Diet – Zero Waste Educational Trail program

CSO: Humusz Szövetség
Area: Soil & waste management (re-use) education program
Location: Budapest area

Type of project

The Zero Waste educational programme welcomes the participation of twenty school groups. The aim is to reach those who are not yet engaged in environmental awareness by organising a one-day Worm Festival. A Compost Forum will also be hosted to promote community composting.

Target

With a communication campaign, they want to reach the segment of the population that belongs to the non-committed category. They plan the contents in such a way that they are easy to understand and attractive for those who are just getting to know each other, e.g. with the concept of composting. They also plan to involve an influencer to distribute the content. By organizing the Giliszta Festival, their aim is to be able to offer a family program to the general public, with which we can attract new followers. By appearing at the events, we will be able to directly address those participants who do not basically go because of environmental protection. They can actively involve them with attention-grabbing games, publications, and quizzes.

  • Schools – 20 pcs
  • General citizens – 350 people directly
  • Students – 400 people
  • Local government – 3 pcs
  • Community Compost coordinators – 20 people

Science-based

The Humus Association has been working to promote a waste-free lifestyle since its foundation in 1995.

They use specialist materials and professional materials through their international network membership.  When using data and writing content, they always refer to the original source. The publications of the Humus Association are often referred to by others, and over the course of nearly 30 years, the organization has managed to become an authentic professional source. The issue of waste is rarely the focus of the climate crisis, even though waste reduction is also an important step in climate adaptation. Each step of the linear model of extraction-production-consumption-waste management involves the emission of greenhouse gases (accounting for 70% of all emissions) and the loss of habitats. “Humusz Association” promotes the principle of zero waste, i.e. instead of managing existing waste, it focuses on resource management and the prevention of waste generation. This requires rethinking our consumer habits and needs and developing new business models. We have developed a “10 steps towards zero waste” program for the public, which gives practical tips for waste reduction and waste management.

Gender

During the construction of the communication campaign and the development of the programs, they pay attention to promote gender equality and make everyone feel addressed. We raise awareness of the role of men in increasing the environmental awareness of families and communities. When planning the communication campaign, we also focus on related topics that are traditionally of interest to men.
