Using mussels as natural biosensors to monitor marine water quality, involving students and fishers.

Students from technical institutes and fisher/mussel farmer cooperatives.

Bivalve biology combined with electronics (electromagnetic sensors and Arduino boards) to detect organism stress.
Gender
Promotion of female participation in STEM sectors and automation, as well as in the fishing sector.
Planned activities
- Trainings targeting students (20-30) and fishers (5-10), Assembly of 4 monitoring stations, daily data analysis, and creation of an Early Warning System (EWS)., plus event and production of kit to replicate the process
Action model
- Hybrid NBS and Citizen Science model; the hypothesis is that shifting environmental monitoring from centralized to community management strengthens trust in science and local protection.
