Alamillo Climático: from co-creation to action.

Type of project

Moving from co-creation to action, promoting awareness, practical involvement and citizen co-responsibility in the face of climate change, through a day of intervention in Alamillo Park where pilot practices are tested and innovative co-created solutions to reduce single-use waste are showcased.

Conventional environmental education workshops fail to spark public interest for two main reasons: firstly, because people do not feel connected to a place that does not speak to them emotionally; and secondly, because these workshops generally remain theoretical and do not connect with each person’s inner drive, that area of action that every person has, however small it may be.

The project seeks to overcome these two difficulties. Firstly, it aims to connect us emotionally with the need to act for the environment in a place that means a lot to people because they use it in their daily lives for different reasons. Secondly, it aims to turn them into active agents who can implement solutions in the park for the elimination of single-use waste.

The duration of the implementation is 6 months.

Target (Disengaged)

Visitors to Alamillo Park will be able to see first-hand how it is possible to enjoy a natural space without relying on single-use plastics, how resources can be reused creatively, and how to generate community dynamics for environmental care.

100 people with the following profile: General public (75 people): diverse audience, priority will be given to people with no previous connection to environmental activism; Mobilised individuals or those with a prior interest (15 individuals): members of neighbourhood, environmental or cultural associations interested in sustainable development; Multipliers (10 individuals): individuals with the capacity for dissemination and leadership in their environments who will be able to replicate the project’s methodologies in other contexts; In addition, the project has participating and collaborating institutions, including various public administrations, academic and social entities, and associations, together with local companies and economic agents.

Science – Based

Activities will include pilot testing of the designed solutions, accompanied by a real-world impact assessment: waste reduction, resource savings, and measurement of the carbon footprint avoided. Collaboration with environmental researchers and technicians will be encouraged to ensure that field tests are conducted with scientific rigour. The results of these practical experiences will be documented and disseminated (brief reports, visual records, social media, local media).

Gender

Balanced participation of women and men will be promoted in all working groups, ensuring representativeness and diversity in the selection of participants and facilitators. Project communications will use inclusive language and non-stereotypical imagery, highlighting female leadership in climate action. The event dynamics will encourage the equitable distribution of roles and speaking time, with facilitation tools aimed at ensuring full and equitable participation. The role of women as agents of climate change will be highlighted, integrating examples and good practices of female leadership in environmental innovation. Gender-disaggregated data will be collected in the participation and results indicators to ensure evaluation from an equity perspective.

Planned activities

• Moving from co-creation to action, promoting awareness, practical involvement and citizen co-responsibility in the face of climate change, through a day of intervention in Alamillo Park where concrete solutions to reduce single-use waste are tested and made visible. In this way, citizens will become more aware and emotionally attached to Alamillo Park and the issue of waste. Sustainable pilot practices and co-created innovative solutions will be implemented. Consolidate alliances between citizens, institutions, associations and academic entities to give continuity to the actions.

Action model

• The park becomes a civic climate laboratory where implementing solutions through citizens themselves becomes the key to ending the disconnect between people and nature and making them active participants in a transition that has already begun and seeks to leave no one behind. The Alamillo Park, as a landmark public space in Seville, thus becomes a living stage for climate innovation, where solutions do not remain on paper, but are tested, adapted and demonstrated in action. This practical approach allows citizens to move from reflection to experimentation, and from there to the real transformation of everyday habits. The methodology is now based on demonstrative learning and active participation.
